How to Rock An Ankara Cape-Scarf

The rainy season is slowly making a comeback, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t slay when the weather is all dull and grey. I loved how dull, cloudy and rainy the weather was last week. The kind of weather that made me want to cuddle in bed with a hot cuppa, and a lovely book while enjoying it. Sadly, Mombasa doesn’t get cold enough to bring out your trench coats, jackets and boots to play!

Last Tuesday the thunder was so loud and scary at about 2 am; I couldn’t sleep, with no power and nothing to keep my insomnia entertained, I decided to let my creative juices flow and suddenly had a bulb moment! We all hate when the weather decides to steal our thunder (I hope you saw what I did there) especially when it comes to fashion. I’m sure we all have that one outfit planned out which should never be worn with something covering it no matter how cold the weather is. With that in mind, I decided to come up with a design that would both be stylish yet warm enough, and easy to remove in case the sun decided to come out blazing.

I called it the cape scarf- a mixture between a scarf and a cape jacket! A friend got me some Kente fabric from Ghana, that I wasn’t quite sure about what I wanted to do with it, or what kind of design I wanted to achieve with it, until the cape scarf design came to mind. So I decided to make an outfit, and use the leftover fabric for the cape scarf. I decided to break the pattern by adding some yellow wax fabric to the bodice to brighten the outfit and give it a nice summery feel!

The cape scarf can be worn in different styles; you can wear it as a cape scarf if it gets too cold, or you can wear it as an infinity scarf when the weather is chilly but bearable. Sadly the sun decided to come out to play yesterday, but I still insisted on rocking my Ankara cape-scarf for a few minutes!

The beauty about the cape scarf is that you can wear it on top of any outfit, to add some African touch to it, and of course men can slay it too by rocking it as an infinity scarf on top of a jacket.

With June just around the corner, we know the weather is about to get all dull and cold soon, so be sure to keep it posted for some cape- scarves giveaway from me!
